6 Tips for Feeling Comfortable at an Engagement Photo Shoot

Feeling nervous about your upcoming engagement photo shoot? Don’t worry you’re not alone. Most people don’t enjoy having their photo taken or feel self-conscious in front of the camera. It’s our wedding photographer’s job to help you feel at ease. A huge benefit of engagement and pre-wedding photographs is that they give you a chance to get to know your photographer and get comfortable before the big day. If you’re still stressed about getting natural photos, here are a few tips to feel confident and comfortable while taking engagement photos.

1. Dress Accordingly

You get to pick your outfit for the engagement shoot, so wear something that’s comfortable and that you feel good in. If you’re a casual couple let your engagement outfits reflect that. Dressing up as someone you’re not will only make you feel uncomfortable.

2. Speak Up

Our engagement photographers may make certain suggestions but if you don’t feel comfortable doing something speak up! If you don’t normally hold hands a photograph of you two doing so may feel awkward. Let your photographer know what sort of contact you two are comfortable with and they’ll work within your boundaries!

3. Shoot Location

The location of your engagement shoot can really impact how comfortable you feel. Some people don’t feel comfortable having a photo shoot in public places. That discomfort will show on camera. Maybe you’d be more comfortable at a location that has significance to you or in your own home. That’s okay!

4. Chat Away

Sometimes the best way to get comfortable is to get to know the person behind the camera. Don’t be afraid to ask our photographers some questions. We get to know your story so it’s only fair you get to know a little of ours if you want.

5. Distractions

Candid photos make for some of the best engagement photography. If you feel awkward and stiff posing stop trying! Walk a little ahead, chat with your partner, and try to forget about the camera. Our photographers will be able to capture beautiful shots whether you’re looking and posing or lost in your own world.

6. Have Fun!

Engagement photos can feel like a big deal but don’t forget to have fun with it. It’s not nearly as nerve-racking as you might think. Our photographers just want to capture the fun, loving relationship between you and your significant other.
