Who to Invite to the Wedding Rehearsal Dinner

Most people think of a wedding as one big event, but in truth, it’s a handful of small events leading up to one big day. Before you walk down the aisle, you’ll probably be throwing a rehearsal dinner, which typically takes place the night before the wedding day. This is a great chance to enjoy the anticipation of the big moment, but who should be invited to the rehearsal dinner? Our wedding photographers explain who you should invite the night before!

Wedding Party

The rehearsal dinner typically follows a quick run-through of the next day’s festivities. You’ll tour the venue, walk through the procession, and nail down any final logistics. It’s vital the wedding party is a part of the rehearsal, so it’s only natural they join the rehearsal dinner after. It’s a great way to show your appreciation to everyone that will be standing next to you on your big day.

Parents

The bride and groom’s parents usually play a big role in their upbringing and making them the person they are on their big day. Traditionally, the groom’s parents paid for the rehearsal dinner as a way of welcoming the bride and thanking the bride’s family for paying for the wedding. Today, most couples pay for their own weddings and other wedding events, but they still hold a place of honor at the rehearsal dinner!

Immediate Family

Other than your parents, it’s customary for immediate family to also join. This includes siblings, grandparents, and any other close family members such as nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and even close family friends. Anyone that you want to spend a little extra time with you should invite since you’ll be running around on the actual wedding day.

Out of Town Guests

Some couples opt to extend the rehearsal dinner guest list by inviting guests that come in from out of town. It’s a great way of showing appreciating for their efforts and spending extra time with them. This can cause the guest list to spiral, so we still suggest keeping it to family members or close friends traveling.
